Newlyn Market Plaice

Preferring privacy, the plaice buries itself in the sandy seabed, using its characteristic smooth brown skin and distinctive red-orange spots as an extra layer of disguise.

The story of Newlyn Market Plaice

Though secretive, the plaice deserves to be seen and celebrated, as its unmistakable design – flowing across its back and down to its tail – is most certainly eye-catching. Working with this fish, I was caught by its rich, sumptuous colours and smooth, flat body, which I interpreted with a fluidity of movement in my design.
